I just realized the files of all my "Letters to Cleo" albums never made it off my hard drive before it died.

In May of 2015 I found myself at a bardic competition at a SCA event. A gentleman that I've know for a few years stood up and sung a song he had written. While the verse was pleasant enough the chorus brought tears to my eyes.

One for the courage that's buried inside you.
Two for the truth you conceal in the fold.
Three for the love that you've always denied you.
Now go seek, be bold, never rest 'til you find your hidden gold.

It's taken me all the time to puzzle out but I finally have realized why the words struck me so.

One for the courage that's buried inside you.
I lived the first 30 years of my life in the same county. I didn't go to collage (I started a business instead) and had never lived away from my family for more then two weeks. When the chance came to go first to New Hampshire and then Texas, followed by the other place in Texas, Utah, Virginia, and Kansas, I was scared yet I knew that whatever I faced would be worth it because I would be a midwife at the end. I had never in my wildest dreamed that I would spend a year just traveling the country.

Two for the truth you conceal in the fold.
My time in Utah was... like going out of the frying pan and into the fire.

I don't know if the preceptor had some kind of chemical imbalance or if she was just a bitch but during my time with her I learned exactly the kind of midwife I wanted to be - which was the total opposite of everything she was.

Three for the love that you've always denied you.
And this was the line that really caused me to cry.

All my life I've had trouble drawing close to people - I have acquaintances and people that I know but true friends I could count on one hand and still have fingers left over.

Now go seek, be bold, never rest 'til you find your hidden gold.
Now despite everything I've gone through and the qualities I may need to work on I know that I have worth. That inside of me is a brilliant light that's wanting to shine.

I just found a megamix of Polish disco on YouTube - I must have it!!!

nestar: (Phantom)
Hey guys, I have stuff to talk about!

Last week I was at the library and looking out at me from the CD rack was "Wonderland" the musical.

Could she be the one, you know?
Tin man, lion or scarecrow?
Wait that's from a different show

I almost drove off the road when I first heard that.

And then I realized that by switching a few songs around I could have a squeal to "Alice" - which I then plotted out ::head desk::

Previous days here... )

Day 26 - A pairing that you hated and ended up loving?
Christine/Eirk “The Phantom of the Opera”

I was first introduced to this fandom through the old black & white movies and then ALW's musical.

The B&W's were trying to play up the horror aspect of the story and the musical didn't really delve into the love between Christine and The Phantom (who they never name).

And then I read the book.

The man's voice spoke again: "Are you very tired?"
"Oh, to-night I gave you my soul and I am dead!" Christine replied.
"Your soul is a beautiful thing, child," replied the grave man's voice, "and I thank you. No emperor ever received so fair a gift. THE ANGELS WEPT TONIGHT."

"My anger equaled my amazement. I rushed at the mask and tried to snatch it away, so as to see the face of the voice. The man said, 'You are in no danger, so long as you do not touch the mask.' And, taking me gently by the wrists, he forced me into a chair and then went down on his knees before me […] And the voice, the voice which I had recognized under the mask, was on its knees before me, WAS A MAN! And I began to cry... The man, still kneeling, must have understood the cause of my tears, for he said, 'It is true, Christine! ... I am not an Angel, nor a genius, nor a ghost ... I am Erik!'"

"Oh, I hate him!" cried Raoul. "And you, Christine, tell me, do you hate him too?"
"No," said Christine simply.
"No, of course not ... Why, you love him! Your fear, your terror, all of that is just love and love of the most exquisite kind, the kind which people do not admit even to themselves,"

I caught "Little Women" on TV this afternoon (Fun Fact: There was a huge outcry when the story was first published over the fact that Jo didn't end up with Laurie. So much so that LMA decided to have Jo and Laurie get married after all... to Bhear and Amy.), which put me into the mood for some old school Christian Bale.

I had such a crush on him back in the day, and is it really any wonder...

Cut for a ton of youtube clips... )

Fandom March Madness is owning my soul.
Sherlock beat out Sybil Crawley which make me both happy (cus I love Sherlock) and sad (cus I picked Sybil for the pool).

Neal Caffrey is neck and neck with Scully, and I know she's Scully and awesome (I didn't even watch the show and I know how awesome she is), but he's Neal FREAKING Caffrey!!!

Kurt Hummle is beating the snot out of Pacey and that makes me very happy.

So in conclusion...

And just after I posted my big bang challenge over at [livejournal.com profile] spy_land, the next challenge came out and it was a fanmix ::face palm::

I didn't even really try for this one, but hey points are points.
Cover and track listing under here... )

I was cleaning up some files on my laptop and found this spoken word/song that I have no clue what it is or where it came from, so I'm hoping that maybe someone out there knows.

The file is titled, "Unknown Soldier" - Listen to it here.

Cut for some really odd lyrics... )
nestar: (Default)
First:
[livejournal.com profile] het_reccers is looking for recs of Syfy mini series fic. So Tin Man and Alice peeps, get over there and do some reccing.
All the info you'll need - http://community.livejournal.com/het_reccers/204704.html

Second:
First there was the commercial with the hamsters in the car and now cats are selling subs... I DON'T UNDERSTAND THIS!!!!!

Third:
Last night I did an ice cream run and as I was paying the radio started to play "Quite Playin' Games With My Heart" (side note: the check out girl and I both started mouthing the words, then saw each other and got embarrassed.). Now I remember when this song first came out and all the hysteria around it - 14 YEAR AGO!!!

The really sad part... it was the Flashback Song!!!
nestar: (Ski Free)
Since the weather has gotten warmer, every Sunday I've been day-tripping with my sisters. Nothing big, a local park or somewhere we can hike. But there is usually a bit of a drive to get there and the radio kind sucks - more commercials then anything else - so I'm hoping to put together a summer driving mix.

Rec me music!

Mr. Fezziwig
Of all the days in all the year
That I'm familiar with
There's only one that's really fun

Company
December the twenty-fifth!

Mr. Fezziwig
Correct!

Mrs. Fezziwig
Ask anyone called Robinson
Or Brown, or Jones, or Smith,
Their favorite day and they will say

Company
December the twenty-fifth!

Mrs. Fezziwig
Correct!

Company
December the twenty-fifth, m'dears
December the twenty-fifth
The dearest day in all the year
December the twenty-fifth!

Mr. Fezziwig and Mrs. Fezziwig

At times we're glad to see the back
Of all our kin and kith

Mrs. Fezziwig
But there's a date we celebrate

Mrs. Fezziwig
At times our friends may seem to be
Devoid of wit and pith

Mr. Fezziwig
But all of us are humorous

If there's one day in history
That's more than any myth
Beyond a doubt one day stands out

December the twenty-fifth!

Mrs. Fezziwig
Correct!

Mr. Fezziwig and Mrs. Fezziwig
I don't hear any arguments
So may I say forthwith
I wish that everyday could be

If I had power for my laptop I would be posting a music mix. Since I don't, I'm going to post some lyrics.

When you can't run, you walk
And when you can't walk, you crawl,
If you find someone to carry you
Then rise up and stand tall.
One raindrop might be nothin'
But no one can stop a wave,
So let us stand united
When we aim to misbehave.

Freedom costs, Freedom costs
When you know your cause is righteous,
You don't stop to count your loss;
Freedom costs, Freedom costs
Libertas Sumptus, Freedom costs

Well, you all had different reasons
But you all answered the call,
I'm about to ask lots more of you
From some, I will ask all.
Some of you won't see the dawn
Some won't see the night,
If we can't do something smart, my friends
Let's at least do something right.

Freedom costs, Freedom costs
When you know your cause is righteous,
You don't stop to count your loss;
Freedom costs, Freedom costs
Libertas Sumptus, Freedom costs

It might look like madness
But love is what we've found.
Love's what keeps us in the air
When we ought to run aground.
Love will keep us sailin'
When it seems like we are through,
Well, we might be banged up plenty
But with love, we will fly true.

Freedom costs, Freedom costs
When you know your cause is righteous,
You don't stop to count your loss;
Freedom costs, Freedom costs
Libertas Sumptus, Freedom costs

Bacteria - Jonathan Coulton / He Touched Me - Heather Headly
Singular Girl - Rhett Miller / Pretend to be Nice - Josie and the Pussycats
Ma (she's making eyes at me) - Al Jolson / A Little Crush - Jennifer Paige

Suddenly Seymour - Kerry Butler & Hunter Foster

Pick three numbers between 1 and 6126. I will then upload the corresponding songs and natter about them a bit, as is my whim.

For your listening enjoyment...

A short play mix for those days when you just want to lock yourself in the bathroom and cry.

It's kind of heavy on the musicals, but that seems to be the only place a girl can sing about feeling bad and it's not about lost love.
