Post the Nine-Hundred and Twenty-First -
Jul. 22nd, 2011 03:00 pmHey guys, I have stuff to talk about!
Last week I was at the library and looking out at me from the CD rack was "Wonderland" the musical.
Could she be the one, you know?
Tin man, lion or scarecrow?
Wait that's from a different show
I almost drove off the road when I first heard that.
And then I realized that by switching a few songs around I could have a squeal to "Alice" - which I then plotted out ::head desk::
( Previous days here... )
Day 26 - A pairing that you hated and ended up loving?
Christine/Eirk “The Phantom of the Opera”
I was first introduced to this fandom through the old black & white movies and then ALW's musical.
The B&W's were trying to play up the horror aspect of the story and the musical didn't really delve into the love between Christine and The Phantom (who they never name).
And then I read the book.
The man's voice spoke again: "Are you very tired?"
"Oh, to-night I gave you my soul and I am dead!" Christine replied.
"Your soul is a beautiful thing, child," replied the grave man's voice, "and I thank you. No emperor ever received so fair a gift. THE ANGELS WEPT TONIGHT."
"My anger equaled my amazement. I rushed at the mask and tried to snatch it away, so as to see the face of the voice. The man said, 'You are in no danger, so long as you do not touch the mask.' And, taking me gently by the wrists, he forced me into a chair and then went down on his knees before me […] And the voice, the voice which I had recognized under the mask, was on its knees before me, WAS A MAN! And I began to cry... The man, still kneeling, must have understood the cause of my tears, for he said, 'It is true, Christine! ... I am not an Angel, nor a genius, nor a ghost ... I am Erik!'"
"Oh, I hate him!" cried Raoul. "And you, Christine, tell me, do you hate him too?"
"No," said Christine simply.
"No, of course not ... Why, you love him! Your fear, your terror, all of that is just love and love of the most exquisite kind, the kind which people do not admit even to themselves,"
