A while back I talked about the "weeds" that grow outside my bedroom windows; well I got off my butt and managed to ID a few of them, the main one being Goldenrod.

It turns out that goldenrod has several medicinal properties so I decided to harvest some.

Use: One or two large handfuls of crushed leaves and flowers, steeped in a quart of boiling water for thirty minutes makes a tea that can be used hot, with honey, to counter allergies (especially pollen allergies), fevers, sore throats, coughs, colds and the flu; or taken cold to relieve colic in babies, and gas in adults.

I've been on a real book crazy lately - averaging a book a day for the last few weeks!

Maybe it's to distract from the fact that my life is starting to stagnate again. Blah...

Today I put the photoshoping skills that I have picked up over my time doing fandom stuff to use for Real Life business stuff and made a cover photo for my FB midwifery page.

I switched laptops last year and moved most of my files onto the new one, and with all the stress of bad work situations I didn't have time to do anything with graphics so it's just now that I realized that none of my screencaps, textures, ect got moved.

Does anyone on my f-list have screencaps from the "Alice" mini?

There are a couple of ties for this round of Rumblr, if you could take a minute and go vote. You don't even have to be a member of the comm, just tell them what you think.

After a super long break, I'm back with a new midwifery vlog post!

It's been over a year since I've really done any icon making, but there's nothing like a good kick in the paint to get back in the game!

Come join in the fun!

If you could take two minutes and go here - - in the sci-fi/fantasy category (which is the third poll down) vote for Mako Mori.

When I was packing for my time in KS I made the choice to bring only one non-school book with me, The Complete Works of Shakespeare.

I set a goal to go through and read the plays that I haven't yet. Since that day, I've change the goal slightly: I will read, listen, or watch the plays I hadn't yet.

My laptop has developed an odd sort of hum.

I do not like this.

I have no problem fund raising for other people. Give me someone trying to raise money for a trip, or medical bills, or whatever, and I have no problem going up to anyone and talking them into donating something.

But turn the tables and asking for myself? I become petrified. Why would anyone want to give me money.

So here I am, screwing up my courage and putting myself out there...

I need $2,000 to attend the Midwifery Today conference. This will cover the conference fee, a hotel room, travel costs, and food. If you want to help out, stop by my Go Fund Me page or feel free to signal boost.

My resolutions for this year all boil down to communicate more.

The LJ part of it is: post something everyday - it doesn't have to be profound or soul searching, it just needs to be words.
nestar: (erinm glitch to cain)
[ profile] erinm_4600, I'm a horrible friend who got you nothing for your birthday but this gif...

...I hope you still love me anyway.

SO I guess I'm updating once a month now?

The apprenticeship continues to go well; I've been moving through the skill testing portion and am taking on more responsibility - I even helped with a catch (it was hour 26 and we didn't think mom was ready to push so I was left alone, then I started to see the head and was stuck in a spot where I couldn't move)!

One of the reasons I haven't been spend much time on LJ is because this program has a tuition, which I've been trading for yard work. It works out to 13 hours a week that I have to fit in around prenatals and births, so my free time has gone down to almost zero.

However... you could help me get back some of that free time! I've posted a crowd-funding campaign to help raise the cost of one year of apprenticeship.

I'm also trying to keep up with a video blog about my time in Utah.

I just found a megamix of Polish disco on YouTube - I must have it!!!
