UTICA, OCT. 1, 2010 — A small audience attending the debut of The Players of Utica comedy “In Person” was pleasantly surprised to find celebrated actress Meryl Streep in the leading role in place of local thespian Tredda Bords.

The perennial Oscar nominee, not currently making a film, explained that she cut her teeth on community theater and was eager to get back to her roots. But what should have been a sellout, with terrific publicity for The Players, was stymied because Streep insisted her performance not be revealed in advance.

“Publicizing it would have helped us at the box office, but we wanted to respect Meryl’s wishes,” explained director Everett Stageleft.

If this fictitious account sounds familiar, it’s just about what happened Tuesday night at Utica-Rome Speedway, when NASCAR star Tony Stewart snuck in under cover of dust and competed in a sprint car race.

Spy_Land is an interactive competition encompassing tv shows and movies that feature espionage and intelligence. Examples include Alias, Chuck, James Bond, and Mission: Impossible.
Members are sorted into teams and then complete missions (i.e. games and challenges), such as writing fic, making graphics, and solving puzzles. Some of the missions involve skill, but most of them are participation and/or luck based, so anyone and everyone can join in the fun. Points are awarded at the end of each mission, and the team with the highest number of points at the end of the phase, wins.
