DON DRUMM
Observer-Dispatch

UTICA, OCT. 1, 2010 — A small audience attending the debut of The Players of Utica comedy “In Person” was pleasantly surprised to find celebrated actress Meryl Streep in the leading role in place of local thespian Tredda Bords.

The perennial Oscar nominee, not currently making a film, explained that she cut her teeth on community theater and was eager to get back to her roots. But what should have been a sellout, with terrific publicity for The Players, was stymied because Streep insisted her performance not be revealed in advance.

“Publicizing it would have helped us at the box office, but we wanted to respect Meryl’s wishes,” explained director Everett Stageleft.

If this fictitious account sounds familiar, it’s just about what happened Tuesday night at Utica-Rome Speedway, when NASCAR star Tony Stewart snuck in under cover of dust and competed in a sprint car race.

I spent this morning/afternoon being all girly. I waxed my legs and eyebrows, panted my nails and washed my hair. Once my hair drys a bit I'm going to set it in pin curls. I've got a great dress, awesome heels and there will be full make-up!

I'm starting to get butterflies in my stomach.

Okay...

Tim's song wasn't working, so he now has a new song that he and I are going to dance to.
On the up side I don't have to remember my monologue, on the down side I have to come up with a dance routine.

We were running long so the second group number has been cut, so that takes away the headache I had over trying to work with Lisa on her singing. Now I only have to work with her on her acting.

So instead of over-thinking everything tonight, I've gotten more eggs!!!

I have 30 hours to pull everything together for the New Years Eve show.

Yup, I'm starting to freak out.

Love me, love my eggs...

Well, eye feels better, yeah!

Dad's comp is now clean and shiny, yeah!

Nose is still plugged, but not as plugged, yeah!

First rehearsal last night went... um... okay. Lisa is going to need a LOT of work in the next week.

Second rehearsal tonight, I'm going to be going over the opening number, fingers crossed!

Egg love...

Okay, I'm a Trip/T'Pol (Star Trek: Enterprise) shipper. I think I have read every story at the House of Tucker (big flippin' archive). The first story I read was "Passionfruit" and it got me hooked, my favorite story is "The Firebrand" which is all kinds of awesome. Both of these stories were written by the same author.

Fast forward several years.

I'm now looking for any Tony/Pepper (Iron Man) stories I can find. There is a multi chapter story called "Edin in a Box" that is wonderful.

But the authors name is tickling the back of my brain.

Then it clicks, the name is the same.

So I ask if she is the same author, she answers "yup", I fangirl all over the place.

Yeah, I was that fan - "OMG! You are so amazing! I reread your stories all the time! You're awesome!!!!!111!!"

Tonight I worked an event at the Hotel Utica, I was one of the "celebrities", famous guests from the past.

And I have photos!

4:30am Wednesday - I wake up just in time to run to the bath room before I vomit. The last time I threw up was from bad sea food, so I'm thinking the egg salad I had was bad, nope. I wake up a few hours later with a headache and all over body pain. And the weather was around 95 and muggy, being sick in the summer is so much worse the being sick in the winter.

6:45pm Friday - I finely found a fake big screen TV for the show Players are putting on. Well, my Mom found it, I just picked it up.

Just a few minutes ago - I friend posted this YouTube Video of Tony Blair, too funny!

"How much would you pay for a white painting? Would it matter who the painter was? Would it be art?"

So I went to see
"Art" last night and it was amazing!

First, the setting. Munson-Williams-Proctor Art Institute is a
gorgeous
place. Having to walk through the gallery to get to the stage really put me in a wonderful mood before the show.

Second, the actors. Jack and Donald (as Marc and
Serge) were good, but Thom as Yvan was hilarious! As I told him, the perfect mix of teenage girl and three year old boy.

Third, the play. As a board member I have a season ticket, but I wasn't really looking forward to this show. So I was amazed by how much I was drawn into it. The balance between the three men, their relationships with each other, and with the panting, really was well done and thought provoking. Why do you stay friends with someone? And what do you hold back for the sake of friendship?
