nestar: (When I'm Alone)

I have several movie review/recaps that I have been meaning to post, so here they all are.

Last week MWPAI hosted a film series for the Academy Award nominated short films.

Tuesday was the animated films.

"Meme les Pigeones Vont au Paradis (Even Pigeons Go to Heaven)" and "Peter and the Wolf" were my favorites.

Pigeons was concise, humorous, and witty.

Peter was a wonderful combination of Prokofiev's music and great art.

Friday was the live action films.

This night was ruled by "Tanghi Argentini" (aka Tango Argentinian). The story of a shy middle age man who, after meeting a women on-line, begs a co-worker to teach him the tango.

I  watched "August Rush" the other night and absolutely loved it! There were several plot holes, but the acting and the soundtrack more then made up for it.

"August Rush" stars Freddie Highmore, Keri Russell, Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Robin Willams.

The movie meme went around my f-list and no one marked down that they had seen "Little Black Book". This must be remedied!

"Little Black Book" is the story of Stacy, a woman who contemplates going through her boyfriends palm pilot in an attempt to learn more about about him.

The contemplation ends when she tells Barb, a co-worker at the "Kippie Kann" show, about her idea. Barb pitches the idea to Kippie and Stacy quickly finds herself in way over her head.

This is not a rom-com! While there are some very humorous moments it is more the story of a woman finding out about herself.

"Little Black Book" stars Brittany Murphy, Holly Hunter, Kathy Bates, Ron Livingston and Stephen Tobolowsky.

For the most part Brittany Murphy bugs me to no end, (I hated her in "Clueless and Uptown Girls) but here she gives a moving, heartfelt performance. I was bawling at the end, and I almost never cry from a movie. (I will get misty, but red-faced, blow your nose tears? The one before that was "My Girl" when I was 10. That's a span of 13 years.)

I loved August Rush except for the Tin Man-ending, of course

Who knew Robin Williams would ever scare me?! o.O
