Yesterday, (Now two days ago) Duke Morguhn Sheridan had an accident (fell from his roof) and was seriously injured. The following was just posted by his squire, Dicea, who has asked that the information be forwarded. Please note her instructions for more information below.
Maria Agrissa Sgourina, OL
I have been asked by Duchess Meirwen to pass along some information. The doctors have reported back their findings this afternoon. While there was some brain stem activity, the doctor is confidant that that activity will fade before tonight.
Morguhn is surrounded by his family who are taking good care of each other.
I expect to receive one more call this evening or tonight with final data.
Please do not attempt to contact the Ladies at this time. As soon as we have arrangements settled, we will publish them as widely as possible.
Feel free to pass this information on to SCA mailing lists and refer any seeking more information or a contact point to me.
I am available via email at dicea.deme at gmail dot com.
Thank you for your kind thoughts, your prayers, and your many offers of help. Your generosity and loving kindness is a great service to us all."
I do not have any further information at this time, other than the above. We will pass along whatever we know and are able to share.
In the service Morguhn taught me,
Maria Agrissa Sgourina, OL (aka Baroness Mairi ni Raghaillaigh)
Part of East Kingdom history, by Mairi ni Raghaillaigh, Companion of the East Kingdom Troubadour by the hand of Morguhn Sheridan, for King Morguhn (during his last East Kingdom reign, at the Pennsic War)
The Warrior King
When I was a lad, I dreamed of war and the glory it would bring.
And I dreamed of a man to lead us there - a powerful warrior king.
I travelled far, I travelled wide, I travelled across the sea
Until I met a knight so bold, my warrior king to be.
chorus:
My king, my king, oh lead me on and teach to me your way
For I would follow a warrior king until my dying day.
He trained me hard, he trained me well, he trained me in sword and shield.
He taught me to live in courage and truth, both on and off the field.
He spoke to me of battles won, and of the battles lost.
He spoke to me of the pain of war, and of the terrible cost.
chorus
Then there came a terrible day when the enemy was near
And to my shame, despite my strength, I felt the grip of fear.
The killing, it went on and on, I thought it would never end.
And I watched the men around me fall, both enemy and friend
chorus
And when the battle reached its height of blood and death and gore,
My warrior king held up his hand and simply said, 'No more'.
'My king!' I cried, 'oh do not fail! The battle is almost won!'
'Oh don't you see, my faithful lad, enough dying has been done.'
chorus
Courage comes in many forms, as this brave king did know,
And by his own example there, this truth to me he showed:
Battles fought on a field of blood are lost 'ere they begin
But the battle that's fought for truth and peace is the hardest fight to win.
chorus
The wise man knows that wars will come, and wars will surely go,
But violence for its own dark sake can only bring us woe.
And I have learned his lesson well. Until the day I die
I will follow him in the way of peace, and go with my head held high.
chorus
My king, my king, oh lead me on and teach to me your way
For I will follow my peace-maker king until my dying day.
