I have not been this invested in the Austen fandom in ages, and since I no longer have the Pond to post my thoughts and feelings in you all get the brunt of my fangirling.

In the book Lydia never gets hurt. Sure she comes awfully close to ruin, but in the end she comes out perfectly fine and even boasts of how wonderfully everything happened. "Send my sisters to visit and I shall get them all husbands!" she proclaims.

In the various works of fanfiction that continue to use the Lydia/Wickham subplot, Lydia is bruised but never broken, she leans that she can continue fun in moderation. when you gamble the house always wins; party, but don't take pills from strangers.

In today's episode of The Lizzie Bennet Diaries we see a Lydia who is broken. What is she suppose to learn from this situation? Not to trust? Not to love?

Way to fail, LBD.

Yeah, that's another thing I forgot to point out in my massive rant about this episode. Lydia is never broken in P&P. In fact, she's just as cheerful and oblivious at the end as she was at the start. I can see wanting her to grow a little in a modernized adaptation, but I could have done without the melodrama.

I'm gonna have faith in them still.. I mean, they've been doing such a good job adapting it. We're just getting to see more of Lydia than the book gave us and they're making her much more sympathetic than she is in the book, I think. I'm gonna bet she'll bounce back.

It hurts to watch her like that but I think they are trying to make us more invested in her story and it works on me perfectly, I just want back the cheerful Lydia, hopefully soon.
