I was looking at the Sci-Fi site for Tin Man and noticed that they had a link for a map of the O.Z.

And they said that this is the path that our favorite group took.

But...

After the ice castle, DG and Raw were taken to Azkaddellia's tower, where Cain and Glitch caught up with them and Toto joined the group.
They also crossed the papay fields twice.

So using Sci-Fi's map as a base, I worked out how the O.Z. might look.

01. Since Az sent the travel storm, I would imagine that she would have the other end somewhat close to her tower.
02. And since DG wasn't found by the tower then the Guild Village must have been kinda close to the tower (maybe that's why the Fighter live in the trees and are so quick to distrust everyone).
03. DG and Glitch leave the village, which is close to the brick road, and find Cain.
04. The fields of the papay and Raw, then everyone jumps into the river...
05. ...but somehow get right back onto the brick road and come to Milltown.
06. We can see the brick road leading into Central City, but only from that one direction. So I'm guessing that the brick road was connecting the Guild to the Central City. (And if any one has read the Baum book then you might have picked up that Dorothy and Co take the brick road from Munchkin Land to the Emerald City, but not after that).
07. The gang leaves Central City by truck so there must be some kind of road heading north, but when they're walking there's no road. So at some point the road ends (or freezes over).
08. Az captures DG and Raw and takes them back to her Tower, So I would guess that the Loagcoats would go to the West of the Papay fields. (and since the brick road is there why wouldn't Az tie a road from her tower to it?)
09. From Az's tower the gang heads south and passes through the Papay fields.
10. The Queens message says that the Realm of the unwanted is south...
11. ... and there has the be an underground connection from the Realm to Ahamo's hut (Cus otherwise why wouldn't Az catch Ahamo and DG when they were going in/coming out?)
12. The Longcoats are marching the guys on a dirt path when the Rebels set up the ambush.
13. Why set up an ambush far away from you camp?
14. In order for the guys to get to the Gray Gale and still meet up with Jeb's reb's (he he) at Az's tower, the Gray Gale must be kinda close to both the camp and the Tower.

So all in all, the went in a figure 8 (if you squint).

Sadly that's how my brain works. I saw the map at sci-fi.com and my first thought was "They were at Az's tower twice!"

After that it bugged me.

One question about point 2: Didn't the munchkins say they were the fighters of the Eastern Guild? If so, shouldn't their village be in the east? Confused...

I don't remember. :P

Or we could go with the Baum directions where (if you are looking at a map) East is Left and West is Right (North is still Up and South Down).

Well...they don't say what it is they're east *of*. For all we know, there could be other guilds further west.

I think your map makes much more sense. They said the Ice Mountain was to the north and Finaqua was to the south.

Waaaaaay more time then I should have spent on something like this.

I could have cleaned the living room, or washed clothes, or edited the sound files from last week, or put in some of the daily logs, or...

truth be told this helps out alot and makes more sense. But I've got a question of my own. Given this is only one small portion of the O.Z., it would stand to reason that the Outer Zone also has oceans and seas right?

Not that I've come across in the Baum books. Rivers and lakes, but nothing bigger.

Personally, I ignore the Baum books (because I've never read a single one) and just run w/ a Sci Fi POV and make it up as I go along. To me, The Zone is a completely unique place. If I need to it have a coastline, it has a coastline....

I reading Ozma of OZ and in there we find out the Oz is surrounded by a dessert, but once you get past the dessert (I'm not sure which direction) is the land of Ev which has a sea coast.

Much better than my VERY rough sketch. Though... I put the Sorceress's tower on the opposite side of the Munchkin's village. Mainly because the Munchkins said they were from the Eastern Guild and Azkadellia was obviously the Wicked Witch of the West.

Only other thing I notice is that they went through the Fields of the Papay twice. Once when Cain was bit, and then later, when DG healed one of the trees.

Which is why I shaped the fields the way I did, that way the gang cut through the northern part on the way to Milltown and the southern tip on the way to Finaqua.
